The short version

Two things worth knowing before you ask

The funding

What it covers

Florida's Step Up For Students scholarship program lets families direct state education funds toward approved providers, and Lugo Wrestling Academy is one of them, which is why so many of our families pay little or nothing themselves.

The coach

Who runs the room

Patricio "Pat" Lugo. Homestead native, Big Ten champion, two time collegiate All American at the University of Iowa, ranked number one in the nation at 149 pounds. He answers these inquiries himself.

After you submit

What happens next

No surprises. Here is the whole process.

You hear from Pat

Usually within a few minutes. It is Pat, not a call center and not an automated system.

He asks two questions

Your child's age and their experience level. That is enough for him to point you the right way.

He walks you through funding

Whether it applies to your family, what it would cover, and what the next step looks like.

No obligation. No sales pitch. If it is not a fit, he will tell you.

Last step

Questions parents ask

Before you fill it out

Is my child too young?

Probably not. We train youth, middle school, and high school athletes, and younger kids work on movement, balance, and coordination long before anything competitive. Tell Pat your child's age and he will tell you straight.

What if they have never wrestled before?

That describes a lot of the kids who walk in. Sessions are built around technique, positioning, and controlled work, so a first timer is learning the same fundamentals every experienced wrestler here started with. No prior experience is required.

How long does the funding take?

It depends on where you are in the process. Some families are already approved and simply did not know the funds could be used here, which is close to immediate. Families starting from scratch have an application to complete first. Pat will tell you which situation you are in on the first call.

What if we cannot cover the balance?

Say so. Between what the scholarship covers and the different session formats we run, there is usually a version of this that works. Have the conversation before you rule it out.
